The Bride of Frankenstein (1935)
Object Witness: Linen bandages, the Bride's body — Frankenstein's laboratory
V1 — Original Draft (90s Soul Hip-Hop / 93 BPM / F Minor)
The bandages wrapped around the Bride's body do not know they are in a horror film. They were woven for the dead — plague victims, war dead, the standard catalogue of human endings. They did not expect the experiment. Silver thread costs more than cotton. They were told they were special. They did not want to be special.
The critique demanded temporal collapse — the bandages speaking from before they were woven and from after the tower fell. The original draft made them articulate and protective. The revision made them complicit. "We are supposed to contain" — their function conflicts directly with her autonomy. This is the tragedy the film never had access to.
The track ends not with silence but with a single looped inhale — never exhaling — for 40 seconds. Is it the Bride's first breath? The bandages' last? The listener's own? Frame 25 does not answer. The object testifies. The listener decides.
